Ink Stained Heart

Deforestation

Tearing down trees
to supply my catharsis
satisfying the starvation of my muse
chopping down spruces, oaks, and maples
at their knees
my pen the ax
—TIMBER—
a clearing rises
amidst the woody dust
starch papyrus
my pen weaves about the tree stubs
charging across the clearing
mental deforestation,
verses spreading roots.
