Pressed into my Heart

Guardian Spirit

Talons shred overcast skies

your wings fan an angry wind

gliding above naked trees

their branches twisting and bending into a web

of bark.

Upon my shoulder your spirit perches

your eye the full moon–

watching over me with keen sight

guarding my soul’s nest,

your tail is stained by my heart’s blood

as it brushes across the wound.

Your silhouette cascading across my crimson canyon

I asked, you answered

dwelling in the sky

your shriek is thunder

your flight an arrow of lightning

descending in seconds

of need.
